“Every carve, every hit of the hammer, and every pass of the lathe is done to meet the customer’s needs.”

– Sandi Leclerc, founder

The history of Atlas is a story in three parts. Founded and operated by Sandi Leclerc and Adam Arnett in 2023, both Sandi and Adam have worked as craftsmen for years. Sandi’s grandfather was skilled with leatherworking as farm life often called for the utility of such a skill; he taught Sandi’s father who pursued leatherworking as a hobbyist, and who in turn taught her their family’s craft. Adam was in high school shop class when he discovered his interest in metalworking and first began to work with a forge and later went on to attend the Northwest School of Wooden Boatbuilding, a trade school dedicated to the teaching and preservation of boatbuilding and marine systems.

Now the two have merged their skills to form Atlas Wood & Steel, pioneering a new business together while Adam splits his time between marksmanship, sailing, engineering, and getting his pilot’s license, and Sandi splits her time between creative design work, homesteading, reading, and writing after being medically retired from the United States Navy.
